Manchester United target Seri Roberto is close to signing a new deal with Barcelona
Sergi Roberto is an important figure for Barcelona FC because he represents everything that the club strives to stand for.
The versatile midfielder had a break through season a couple of years ago as he was deployed as a full back by Luis Enrique.
A central midfielder by trade, Sergi’s versatility and willingness to put the team’s interests over him endeared the Catalan to the Barcelona faithful.
A La Masia graduate, Sergi’s influence has grown in this Barcelona side as his energetic performances have been a high point for the team this season.

Sergi was the most improved player in the team last year, as his all-action performances went under the radar.
Used primarily as a right back, Sergi admirably filled in the huge shoes left by Dani Alves, as the 25-year old ensured that Barcelona did not miss the great Brazilian’s marauding presence on the flanks.
Sergi is highly rated by several clubs around Europe, with Manchester United especially keen on the young Catalan. Jose Mourinho was willing to trigger Sergi’s release clause earlier this year, but was eventually discouraged to do so by Sergi himself.
As soon as Barcelona got wind of the fact that Sergi may be looking to move abroad, they started negotiations with the Catalan’s representatives and were eager for him to sign a new long term contract.
After months of discussions between the two parties, it is being reported that a break through has been made and that Sergi is willing to put pen to paper in the coming weeks.
According to reports, his new contract will run till 2023. The new contract will have a release clause of €300M and he will earn €10M gross, making him one of the highest earners at the club.
Looks like Sergi Roberto is going to remain at Barcelona after all!
