“Luka Doncic does have good players around him”: JJ Redick Argues Mavericks Star Does NOT Need Help
The Dallas Mavericks are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. The main reason for their success is none other than the man who dons jersey No.77 for them, Luka Doncic.
Luka Doncic has been playing some MVP basketball this season, averaging 34 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists per game. Despite his amazing performances, experts still believe it may not be enough.
Many are calling for the Mavs to get Doncic some help. In particular, a bonafide second option. However, former Mavericks star turned pundit JJ Redick says otherwise.
JJ Redick suggests that the Mavericks do not need to get Luka Doncic any help
One of the narratives surrounding the Dallas Mavericks this season is that Luka Doncic does not have any help. El Matador has been killing it over the last five games, including two high-scoring performances that saw him score 60 points against the Knicks and 51 against the Spurs.
With him in such form, it is safe to say that Luka is carrying the Mavs. Something that had led to a lot of fans calling for Mark Cuban and the front office to get Doncic some help. However, some do not agree. Specifically, JJ Redick, recently stated on his podcast that the young guard already has a good supporting cast around him.
JJ Redick chose retirement over playing with Luka and the Mavericks
Back in 2021, JJ Redick was traded to the Mavericks from the New Orleans Pelicans. A move that both shocked Redick and upset him, as he did not want to make the move.
He ultimately chose to retire rather than make $16 million playing with Luka Doncic and the Mavs.

Granted, JJ’s anger was more towards the Pels than with the Mavs. He was looking to be with his family in Brooklyn, and ultimately, retirement was his only choice.
