Kidambi Srikant pulled off an incredible Indonesia Super Series final win, completely dismantling his opponent Kazumasa Sakai in the final, romping to a 21-11, 21-17 victory in 39 minutes.
BAI President, Himant Biswa Sharma, announced a Rs 5 Lakh cash reward for Kidambi Srikant, following his impeccable display at the Indonesia Open.
“It is a matter of huge joy for the entire country to see Srikanth triumph in Indonesia. I called him right after the match to congratulate him on this stellar win. He has made the whole country proud once again and I am quite confident he will keep doing so in future as well,” Himant said.
Kidambi Srikant has now become the first Indian to win the Indonesia Open. It is also Kidambi’s first ever Super Series title.
“We are really delighted at Kidambi’s achievement and to celebrate that Dr. Sarma on behalf of BAI has announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for his stupendous performance in Jakarta,” a BAI spokesperson said.
Indian Badminton has been on its way up in the last couple of years with women’s badminton leading the way. But in the last year or so, Sai Praneeth, Kidambi Srikant and HS Prannoy have made giant strides in the world circuit and are making Pullela Gopichand’s premonition come true(when he had last year predicted that Indian men’s badminton would match if not better Indian women’s badminton).
Hopefully this Indian trio can bring home a few more Super Series titles.
