Diego Maradona taken to hospital after Argentina’s win
Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 to reach the round-of-16 of the World Cup.
Marcos Rojo’s late winner started the seemingly never-ending celebrations in Argentina. It was only fitting that Rojo carried Messi on his shoulders after scoring the winner for the team. For the rest of the match, the Argentina fans did not stop singing, and so did a certain man who was central to Argentina’s World Cup victory in 1986, Diego Maradona.
Maradona’ antics remained a talking point for many people on the social media, as the cameras panned to him on many occasions during the match. After Lionel Messi’s goal early into the game, Maradona stretched his hands and screamed at the sky, before dramatically folding his hand to form a cross.
Later, he almost dozed off in the middle of the game. When Marcos Rojo scored the winner, he stretched his hands again and screamed down at the pitch, while making offensive gestures with his fingers.
However, a footage after the match shows that Maradona was in a real bad state during the game. In the footage, Maradona is being helped, as he is unable to walk properly. Here is the video –
Maradona was then taken to hospital where he was treated by the medical team. Further news about his health is awaited.
Argentina will now face the Group C toppers, France in the round-of-16. Meanwhile, in the other match of Group D, Croatia beat Iceland 2-1, ensuring Croatia a first-place finish in the group, with 9 points. The European team will play against Denmark in the knock-out round.
