Christian Horner Contradicts Sergio Perez's Heavy Accusation on Tire Strategy; Claims Max Verstappen Would Have Won With Same Strategy

Max Verstappen has recently revealed that he is better off being a driver and does not want the job of managing a team. Having joined the Red Bull fraternity full-time back in 2015, the two-time world champion knows very well how a team is run, and this is the reason why he never wants to be a team principal with colossal finances at stake.

The role of a team principal is the most demanding in a Formula 1 team. The person in the chair needs to undertake a humongous task, with a lot of responsibility. The team principal is the man with whom the buck stops as he has to look after all the aspects.

He would be overseeing the team’s operations, hiring and managing drivers, managing relationships with shareholders and sponsors, and looking after development. All in all, the task is monumental.

Verstappen has seen Christian Horner throughout and knows what it takes to keep a $3,000,000,000 team of this stature on top for years. While the star driver wants to open a racing team in the future, he never wants to be a boss citing the draconian responsibilities a team principal has in an F1 team.

Max Verstappen wants his team but does not want to be the boss

The defending champion, who is a  sim racing fanatic has recently opened up with CNN ahead of the 2023 British Grand Prix. There he mentioned his future prospects and revealed his plans on having a sim racing team.

However, during the interview, the Dutch driver mentioned his interest in owning a team, but his disinterest was being a boss. There are multiple reasons behind this as the 25-year-old said to be an F1 boss, one needs to handle huge money and on top of that, they have to handle all the important decisions in the team.

This is added to the fact that the boss has to travel throughout the season with the team. Having done that as a driver, Verstappen doesn’t want to repeat it by being a boss. Talking about owning a team, the Red Bull champion mentioned that he already owns a team named Verstappen.com Racing.

It’s [Verstappen’s team] integrated already in real racing and in sim racing part. So there are so many opportunities I want to try and achieve,” revealed the defending champion. Admittedly, the Red Bull star is also associated with Team Redline, where he regularly streams.

How is Verstappen performing as a driver?

Max Verstappen has been absolutely phenomenal this season. With eight wins out of ten races, the Dutchman now has taken his lead to a staggering 99 points. His recent win at Silverstone has been his sixth consecutive victory.

Together with Red Bull and its mighty RB-19, the 25-year-old has been breaking records. After breaking Ayrton Senna’s all-time win record with 42 wins in Austria, Verstappen’s next target is to inch closer to breaking Sebastian Vettel’s nine-consecutive wins record.

As for Red Bull, they are also on the verge of breaking McLaren’s consecutive 11 wins’ record, and astonishingly they will need just a win. As things stand, both Verstappen and his team are leading their respective categories and looking to take home the double championship, this time.
