Fernando Torres leaves a handwritten letter for his fans ahead of his farewell match against Vissel Kobe at the Best Amenity Stadium.

Fernando Torres was a beast in his prime. There were very few who could match him on his best day. He impressed in his time in the La Liga with Atletico Madrid. He played 142 games for the Reds and scored 81 goals, becoming a Liverpool Legend in the process. However, his ambitions outgrew the ambitions of the club and he joined Chelsea in the pursuit of trophies.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard, he lost form after multiple injuries and failed to live up to his £50 million price tag. It was heart-breaking to see him struggle at Stamford Bridge. He did however, fulfill his dream of winning the Champions League.

Many hearts were broken when Torres announced his retirement back in June and many more were shed today when he took the field for the last time. In a touching gesture, Torres’ hand written letter was handed out to thousands of fans before his retirement match.

The Letter reads:

“When I was five years old, I started playing football with my brother. Thirty years later I will play my final match as a professional.

“Today I look back and can hardly believe everything I’ve lived through. I feel very fortunate to have been able to win the most important trophies in the world and play for some of the most prestigious clubs.

“There are also the successes with the Spanish national team; I have experienced feelings of great emotion and happiness. I wanted to thank football for making me so happy, but I don’t want to forget the most authentic part of the sport, the part which makes it so wonderful: the fans.

“Thanks to each and every one of the fans of the teams I played for, loving, cheering and respecting me. Also, to rival fans because you made me a better player.

“I hope it made you enjoy my football and inspired you in some way. Never stop chasing your dreams, it has been a real pleasure. Thank you, football.”

Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
