Frenkie de Jong to Real Madrid

Frenkie de Jong to Real Madrid: Real Madrid are looking to splash €80m on Ajax youngster in a bid to replace Luka Modric.

Luka Modric has been terrific for Real Madrid during his time at the Spanish capital. His prowess in the midfield, both for Real Madrid and Croatia, ended the dominance of Ronaldo and Messi in the end-of-the-season awards this year.

Modric bagged the player of the year award in both, UEFA and FIFA ceremonies this year. However, Real Madrid have seemingly realised that it is also the time to start looking for the successors to the Croatian star.

Frenkie de Jong has headlined the transfer market throughout the summer. He was heavily rumoured to be joining FC Barcelona this summer, but the transfer didn’t take place. Barca are still reportedly interested in the youngster.

Real Madrid have also entered the race to sign the Ajax star, according to De Telegraaf.

“I can neither confirm nor deny this. You have to ask Marc Overmars, because I send all the clubs that report to me [to him],” De Jong’s agent, Ali Durson told De Telegraaf on the speculations.

Real Madrid and Barcelona aren’t the only club eyeing the talented Ajax youngster. Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are all in line to sign De Jong.

De Jong has represented the Netherlands youth side at U15, U18, U19 and U21 level. He currently plays for the U21 squad.

The Dutch starlet is a versatile footballer, and has played in the midfield, central defence, and has also efficiently performed as a pivot at his current club.
