Joao Mario has shone at the San Siro since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2016 and according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho has set his sights on signing Mario.

Juan Mata has endured a tumultuous relationship with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea and has found himself being pushed in an out of the Manchester United side over the past twelve months.

The Spaniard made 10 Premier League appearances this season and is said to be looking for a way out of the club in an effort to make a late push towards the Spain national team at the World Cup in Russia.

The Portuguese tactician is said to be looking to offer Mata in a swap deal for Joao Mario, who is not enjoying the best of relationships with Inter Milan head coach Luciano Spalletti.

The 29-year-old, though, is apparently not in favour of leaving United for Inter. While that switch looks unlikely to materialise, one player who would be welcomed by the Italians is Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Corriere dello Sport added Inter would happily enter negotiations in January if the Armenian was part of the deal.

Jose has criticised the former Borussia Dortmund star of late. And Mkhitaryan is struggling to earn his way back into the United set-up after a big dip in form. It remains to be seen if they would be open to the prospect of exchanging Mkhitaryan for Mario.

On the other side, the Mario has failed to nail down a regular spot in Luciano Spalletti’s side and is up for grabs this January. Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the Portugal international, who shone at Euro 2016 as his country went all the way.
