Jose Mourinho on Smalling: ‘The only thing I don’t like about him is his hair’
Jose Mourinho on Smalling: Manchester United manager talked about the match against Watford in the post-match conference.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was visibly delighted with the performance against Watford at the Vicarage Road. Mourinho’s side registered a 2-1 victory to secure another three points in the league.
Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling scored the two goals for United, as Watford suffered their first loss of the league season.
After the match, Mourinho addressed the media in the press conference. He talked about his side’s performance, and also talked about Chris Smalling who scored a terrific goal in the game.
“He was good, the only thing I don’t like from Chris at this moment is his haircut, but I am nobody to tell him that,” Mourinho joked.
“But he’s playing really well, also Victor [Lindelof]. And I repeat, Marouane [Fellaini] is really important for them in two difficult matches, matches of two-against-two, because Burnley and Watford play two strikers, two powerful strikers.
“They can hold the ball, they can make runs, they are good in the air, they are physical, clever, so I think these three guys [Smalling, Lindelof and Fellaini] were very important for us today again, and when a central defender can score a goal, even better.”
Marouane Fellaini was handed his second start of the season after an impressive performance against Burnley before the international break.

Even when United were put on pressure in the second half due to overtly defensive approach to the game, Mourinho was happy with the team’s performance.
United’s night was marred towards the end of the match due to a red card to Nemanja Matic, who will now be suspended for the match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Earlier, against Burnley, Marcus Rashford was given a straight red card.
