Kostas Manolas to Man Utd

Kostas Manolas to Man Utd: Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Roma for the defender.

Manchester United are currently 6th in the Premier League. The side has been in impressive form ever since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian manager has won his first five games at the club, and the squad is currently in Dubai where they will take part in warm-weather training sessions. Manchester United will meet Tottenham Hotspur in the league next weekend.

Meanwhile, the club is also keeping tabs on the transfer market, and is essentially in the race to sign central defenders.

Manchester United’s defence has been leaky for many seasons now, and this year, they have conceded the joint-most goals in the top-10 of the league table, with West Ham United.

Kostas Manolas to Man Utd:

According to reports in Italy, Manchester United are ready to pay the buy-out clause for Roma’s defender Kostas Manolas. The central defender has been linked with Manchester United in the summer transfer window last year as well.

However, the clause can only be activated in the summer i.e. the beginning of the new season.

Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Manchester United can sign the Roma defender for £32m. It has also been reported that the club had a meeting with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to discuss potential targets and the outgoing players at Manchester United.

The squad is currently in Dubai.

Roma is desperate to keep the player at the club, but the Italian outlet reports that the club has started to look for replacements, with Sampdoria’s Joachim Andersen at the top of their list.

Manolas hasn’t been shy to talk about his links with the European heavyweights, and has previously expressed his desire to play for the ‘biggest’ clubs, in which he included Manchester United.

“It’s only natural you want to play for the biggest clubs, like Barcelona, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich,” he told Sport 24 in July.

He insisted that he could be an important player for any big club.

“I think I could make the difference anywhere I went, even at Barcelona – although I have never spoken to them.”

Earlier, the club has also been reported to have identified two defensive targets in the January transfer window.
