With a move to Barcelona failing to materialise, Wijnaldum had remained at the Premier League side with his importance growing colossally this season. With injuries reeling the club, Wijnaldum’s fitness levels saw him take centrestage in midfield for the club with his performances bringing semblance at a period of chaos.
His unnerving and unwavering commitment to the club has since prompted the side to offer him an extension. However, despite Klopp publicly sparingly highly about the 30 year old, things remain up in the air when it comes to Wijnaldum’s future at Liverpool.
“I would be happy if he would stay here,” Klopp said ahead of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Brighton last month. “I am pretty happy with Gini. You can see that when you see most of the line-ups! He always played good, that’s why he played so many games. And he has played plenty of positions, different positions.”
