Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero wants to quit the club this summer and could return to Argentina with Independiente, according to the Sun.

Aguero joined City in 2011 and has become the club’s highest goalscorer in seven trophy-laden seasons in the north-west.

However, Aguero’s relationship with Pep Guardiola has soured over the last six months. The Argentina star is unhappy at being rotated with strike partner Gabriel Jesus too often. That’s led to Aguero questioning his future at the Etihad.

A move back to Argentina on cards?

The forward is held up as a club legend at Independiente. The cash from Aguero’s move to Atletico ten years ago is still paying for refurbishments to the club’s stadium.

Aguero is likely to embark on a run in the side following injury to Jesus in the side’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve. However, City are still keen on signing Alexis Sanchez. With Jesus out, 29-year old’s decision will depend on Sanchez’s arrival. The Chilean might be the catalyst to Sergio’s move.

Guardiola admitted after the draw that the club will hold ‘internal meetings’ about the Chilean as he enters the last six months of his contract.

Kun Aguero’s current contract keeps him at the Etihad until the summer of 2019. He has already expressed his wish to end his career at boyhood club Independiente.

A stop at the Spanish Capital for the Argentine?

Real Madrid sees him as a cheap and suitable candidate to replace an ageing and out-of-form Benzema. Having sold a striker in Morata, they currently have no alternatives for the Frenchman to start. A big money move for Dybala seems to be on the cards but has so far failed to materialize.

It remains to be seen whether Aguero will stop in Spain before moving back to his own country.
