Man Utd News: Harry Maguire wants captain's armband after following his idol Ferdinand

Harry Maguire makes a huge resolution by claiming about the captain’s armband after following his idol Rio Ferdinand.

Harry Maguire believes he would take over the captain’s armband one day, and desires the Red Devils to “back to where it should be”.

The Red Devils invested £80 million on the centre-back as they seek to get back to their way back to top. It has been a fall from grace at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, but Maguire is desperate to play a huge part in the current project under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Although the Norwegian has been in the side of scrutiny after an unsuccessful start, he wants to take over the armband – guarding his teammates one day. Maguire previously mentioned his desire to follow his idol Rio Ferdinand to Old Trafford and sealed a move to play under Solskjaer.

Maguire told United Review when asked if he would like to skipper United: “Definitely. It’s something I still want to improve on, my leadership qualities on the pitch and especially my talking.

“I want to demand more from the players, demand standards, but I’m obviously not concentrating on that at the moment.

“I’m fully focused on improving the team and getting this club back to where it should be.”

Maguire has been blowing hot and cold since signing for the Red Devils. In the recently-concluded game against Arsenal, the centre-back played a part in Manchester United’s letdown by conceding the equalizer in the second half.

The former Hull City and Leicester City centre-half added: “I’ve played a large amount of games for my age and quite a few in the Premier League as well.

“I do think I have a lot of experience and I can help our team, which is so young at the moment. We can help each other through as there are going to be plenty of good times, but probably some not-so-good times as well.

“We’ve got to learn and improve and make sure the good times become more frequent. We’re working hard on the training pitch at the moment and are going to keep striving to improve.”

Before the International break, United will play AZ Alkmaar and later face Newcastle United.
