Reports of Italian outlet Calciomercato pin Anthony Martial to sign new contract at Manchester United, worth 9 million euros a year.

Anthony Martial has been offered an extension to his contract by Manchester United, according to latest reports. The Frenchman is being provided with a salary of 9 million pounds per annum for continuing to play at the Old Trafford. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be ready to accept it.

The 22 year old’s Manchester United future has been under serious doubt this summer with rumours making rounds of a transfer to Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur on the cards.

In spite of the player’s desire to leave the club, Manchester United’s executive- Ed Woodward- thinks that the player will have a longer future at the club than Jose Mourinho and believes that the former Monaco forward will be a focal point in the Manchester United attack in the future.

Negotiations have apparently been open between the concerned parties since the month of May but there has been no concretive update about the situation from either of them.

What is clear though, is that Martial has a strained relationship with Jose and the former Chelsea boss was dismayed to not see him go as he did not get enough funds due to Woodward blocking a transfer.

Anthony Martial has not been really active this season for the Red Devils either. The 22 year old is down below in the pecking order since last season and has featured only once this season for the Premier League giants. That came in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton nearly three weeks ago in a game that saw him get hauled off early.

Martial will now wait to understand Mourinho’s future with the club before committing his. He currently has a year’s contract left with the club with an option to extend further.

The Red Devils have been in a poor situation in the Premier League so far. An opening win against Leicester City was accompanied by a string of losses to Brighton and Tottenham before a hard fought win at Burnley. Manchester United have six out of twelve possible points so far.
