Messi injury update

Messi injury update: Lionel Messi shined for Barcelona against Valencia in the league game last night.

Lionel Messi stepped up for Barca and rescued a point for the side against Valencia last night.

Barca were 0-2 down in the first half when Messi scored the first of his two goals through a spot-kick.

He doubled the lead in the second half with a thunderous strike out of nowhere and salvaged a point for the host side. However, Barca fans received a setback when Messi went off the field for a few minutes and received treatment for a seeming injury.

Ernesto Valverde opened up on the injury after the game, admitting that the Barca captain has a ‘problem.’

Messi injury update:

Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the semifinal of the Copa del Rey next week, which aggravates the concern surrounding Messi’s injury.

“(Messi) has a small problem,” Valverde told the media in the post-match press conference. “I can’t say exactly what problem he has, I don’t know,” he told a press conference after the match.”

The manager further stated that he is waiting for the report from the medical staff, and justifiably refused to confirm if he will be part of the team for the Wednesday’s El Clasico.

“We will have to wait to see what medical staff say. If he’s in good shape, he’ll play on Wednesday.

“We will wait. I imagine it’s nothing, but we’ll wait a few hours. Leo didn’t ask me to sub him off,” said Valverde.

Lionel Messi has been brilliant for Barcelona this season, having scored 21 goals in 20 La Liga appearances for the club. He has contributed to almost half the goals Barcelona have scored across all competitions this season.

What next?

Barcelona are currently at the top of the league. However, Atletico Madrid will aim to close the gap to three points later tonight as they take on Real Betis.
