Mohamed Salah mocks African football federation on Social Media after giving the awards ceremony a miss. Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane won the POTY award.
Liverpool star forward Mohamed Salah gave the Confederation of African football awards in Cairo a miss on Tuesday night. His teammate, Sadio Mane picked up the player of the year award while the Egyptian stayed back in England to prepare for the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspurs on Saturday.
Salah was criticised by many for not attending the event. Some claimed that the reason he chose to do so was because of losing the award to Mane. Salah who came 2nd in the voting however, appears to have done so because of his ongoing feud with the Egyptian Football Association.

Egypt were awarded the CAF’s award for the best federation of 2019 on Tuesday night. They were awarded so for being a great host during the African Cup of Nations in the summer of 2019. However, Mohamed Salah seemed to disagree with the decision.
Mohamed Salah uploaded a picture on his Instagram story that seemed to suggest that he was mocking his country’s FA. He uploaded a picture of his little daughter laughing along with the words, “and the award for best federation goes to...”
Mohamed Salah and the Egyptian FA have not seen eye to eye on various issues. The two fell out during the 2018 World Cup in Russia when he was pictured Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in the Egypt camp.
Salah later claimed that he was forced to do so by the FA. The forward was not pleased at being associated with someone with a history of continued human rights violation. He has clashed with the FA on several other issues such as sponsorships and he continues to oppose several heads of football in his country.
