Vince Carter’s last shot in the NBA goes viral, as the legend announced his retirement from the game after 22 long seasons

NBA veteran, Vince Carter announced his retirement today after completing 22 seasons in the NBA at the age of 43.

Carter, who was the oldest player to play in the NBA this season. Announced in an interview on the “Winging it with Vince Carter” podcast that he would be retiring from basketball officially this season.

“I’m officially finished playing basketball,” Carter said. “I’m officially done playing basketball professionally.”

Vince Carter’s last shot in the NBA

Vince Carter played for the Atlanta Hawks as his last team. The Hawks won’t be part of the NBA restart as they were one of the 8 teams to miss out on the 22 spots. Carter played his last match for the Hawks against the Knicks, which was a 136-131 loss for the Hawks. He memorably made a 3-pointer with 13.4 seconds left in overtime despite losing the match.

“Making the last shot helped the situation. I think if I didn’t make my last shot, it’d have been a little different. It’d have felt a little different. I’d have been itching to, at least get back and play one minute and make one shot.” Carter said in the podcast talking about his last match.

Vince Carter’s NBA Journey

His career started with a twist, selected fifth overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1998 NBA Draft. Only to get traded minutes later for his North Carolina teammate Antawn Jamison, who was drafted by the Toronto Raptors a spot ahead.

Carter played for the Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, and the Memphis Grizzlies. With stints ar Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and ending his career at Atlanta Hawks.

He also played for the US men National team, representing them the Olympics.

His preferred positions were shooting guard and small forward, he was known for his dunking ability at 6ft 6 inches. He won the NBA slam dunk competition in 2000.

Carter is the only player to play 22 seasons in the NBA. Also, the only player to play in four different decades.

He was an 8 time NBA All-star team member. And his best performances coming for the Toronto Raptors.

Vince Carter will surely be remembered as an NBA great.
