After all the criticism over the past, Pogba was given a start in a huge Premier Lague clash against Chelsea, as the Frenchman had the perfect opportunity to stamp his quality and show the world why he is touted as one of the best players in the world.
But Pogba did not look like he was completely happy on the pitch, as the questions will continue to circle around the the famous Frenchman.
Paul Pogba’s return to Manchester United was supposed to propel the English side back among the European elite, with the Frenchman being the driving force. Pogba left United as a prodigiously gifted kid, and returned as genuine superstar.
His impressive performances in a strong Juventus side catapulted him into the elite of world football, as Pogba was talked about as a possible Ballon d’Or winner in the future.
But 18 months since his mega money move, Pogba has become a conundrum for United and manager Jose Mouirnho. The inability to find Pogba’s best position in the side is startling to say the least, as people cannot understand how Jose has not brought the best out of the talented midfielder.
Pogba was at his best in Juventus, when he played in a three man midfield and was given the license to roam around the park. He is primarily an attack minded midfielder, whose defensive abilities not his strongest suit.
At United, Pogba has not played well in a two-man midfield, as he cannot control his instinct to bomb forward and gravitate towards the wings at every opportunity. He was tried with varying success as a number 10, but Jose uses Lingard in that position.
It looks like Pogba’s relationship with Jose has strained over the last few weeks, as the Frenchman was hauled off in the last two away matches. Pogba’s crestfallen expression after being substituted at Newcastle told the whole story, as the Frenchman has now posed a huge problem for Jose.
The inability to find Pogba’s best position in the side has now been compounded by Alexis Sanchez’s arrival at the club. Alexis is another prodigiously gifted player who will not be confined by tactical discipline.
Jose will now have to create a system which brings out the best in their star players, something that he has not been able to achieve as of now.
We also hear that Pogba’s agent is looking to sell him abroad, with Real Madrid being his preferred destination. Madrid will now look to tempt Pogba after the World Cup, as a 100 million sum could might be enough for Jose to sell United’s most expensive transfer of all time.
