Pep Guardiola forgets Aguero’s disallowed goal: Manchester City faced a stunning 2-1 defeat against Newcastle.
Manchester City’s title challenge took a huge hot earlier tonight as they faced a devastating 2-1 defeat against Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez’s side made an emphatic comeback after conceding within 23 seconds from kick-off.
Salomon Rondon equalized for Newcastle in the 66th minute, while Matt Ritchie’s goal from spot-kick proved to be the winner for the host side.
However, a controversial incident took place in the first half when Kevin de Bruyne was yellow-carded for taking a free-kick too quickly (and Aguero scoring). Pep Guardiola was asked to comment on the incident, but the Manchester City manager didn’t seem to remember it at all!
Pep Guardiola forgets Aguero’s disallowed goal:
In the post-match interview, the Manchester City manager was asked to comment on the side’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.
The interviewer also questioned him on his opinion about Paul Tierney’s decision to book Kevin de Bruyne and disallow Sergio Aguero’s goal, which would’ve otherwise doubled the lead for the visitors.
In a state of disbelief that we’ve just come from a goal down to beat the Champions with a centre midfield pairing of Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden up against Kevin DeBruyne, Fernandinho and David Silva.

Bewildering refereeing by Paul Tierney to book Kevin De Bruyne for taking a free kick too quickly (and turned in by Aguero). Sterling was fouled, so De Bruyne was simply trying to get on with the game. Pedantic. #NEWMCI

However, Guardiola had a blank expression on his face and it wasn’t until he was helped by another member of the broadcasting team to remember the incident.
The interviewer funnily said, “You’ve missed that one in the grand scheme of things, so probably it’s not that important anymore!”

“These actions can change the game, of course, but in general, our game was not in rhythm we need to play in a Premier League game,” Guardiola replied.
Ridiculous to penalise the team that has been awarded a freekick. De Bruyne booked for taking it before the referee was ready. Think it’s a law change that is quite rightly being considered. Take it as soon as you want.

Yes, obviously the referee is within his rights which is why it’s good that they are considering a law change. Daft that the game is slowed down and the team winning the freekick is punished just so the ref can grab his breath. https://t.co/JzpP3nY7PI

What on earth is going on tonight. Man City losing at Newcastle. Burnley winning 2-0 at Old Trafford. Fulham coming from 2 down to win 4-2, and maddest of all, Arsenal beat Cardiff. See it all on @BBCMOTD tomorrow night.

With this loss, Manchester City remain four points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have an opportunity to further extend the lead to seven points as they take on Leicester City tomorrow night.
