Indian 7: Pawan Kumar Sehrawat: Super 10, 1 super raid and 1 all out

World 7: Jang Kun Lee: Super 10, Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh: 1 all out

How It Happened

Going into the exhibition encounter as firm favourites owing to the exemplary raiding department at their disposal, the hosts took no time in setting the tone. Despite losing both Ajay Thakur and Pawan Kumar Sehrawat owing to brilliant tackles by Fiazel and Nabibakhsh, Indian side refused to be deterred despite going into a 2-0 deficit in the early exchanges.

Going in for a do or die raid, Nitish Kumar pulled off a scrumptious raid with his solid thigh hold seeing Indian 7 register the first point on the scoreboard before World 7 hit back immediately with the league’s most expensive international signing at Rs.77.5 lakh, Nabibakhsh pulling off a successful raid to see his side take the league back.

From there on though it was all Indian 7 in the opening half with Pawan Kumar Sehrawat showing why he had the most raid points last seasons as he pulled off the evening’s first super raid, taking three points owing to multiple touches to give his side a 9-9. Buoyed by that advantage, there was no stopping the home side who went onto resonate the super raid with an all out as Pawan took out Fiazel and Nabibakhsh to see India 7 take a 14-9 lead. They went onto build on it as they went into the end of the first half at 201-4, pulling off 2 all out points and the 1 bonus point which proved to be the decisive factor.

However the second half saw Indian 7 being pummelled by World 7 who came out with an extremely attacking gameplan, one the hosts were never able to put a stop to. Coming hot off the blocks, the visiting side lined with international worldclass players saw Jang Kun Lee get three points in the early parts of the final half of the game to see World 7 pile on the pressure on Indian 7.

Despite being battered, Indian 7 managed to hold onto their composure as they remained undeterred to curtail World 7’s do or die raid that saw them bring back Ajay Thakur and take a 27-19 lead before World 7’s incredible turnaround began.

Showing immense fighting spirit, World 7 pulled off 5 points in the closing stages of the match as opposed to India’s 2, one that saw World 7 build on the momentum garnered from there. Coupled with Lee’s super raiding display and Nabibakhsh’s profound tackling display, the two combined in unison to transition their side to a win.

After blocking Deepak Hooda to see his side earn a tackle point, Nabibakhsh pulled off an all out in the finishing minutes of the match as he pulled of two touches, one each on Girish Kumar and Nitish Kumar seeing Pawan Kumar Sehrawat go in for the final raid. His super 10 wasn’t enough to take his side to a win though as Lee held onto stop his raid, seeing World 7 get past the finishing line by the sole point.
