Solskjaer on Paul Pogba

Solskjaer on Paul Pogba: The midfielder has stepped up impressively under Solskjaer and it seems the manager is now set to reward him.

Manchester United have been brilliant under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The side is on a seven-game unbeaten run and will look to extend their run later tonight as they take on Arsenal in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Paul Pogba is one of the many players who has been impressive under Solskjaer. The midfielder has scored five goals and bagged four assists in the six games under the Norwegian manager.

Solskjaer has previously worked with Pogba during his time with Manchester United’s youth team, where Pogba was a part before leaving the side for Juventus.

While the head coach has previously stated that he would build his team around Paul Pogba, he made another huge claim in the pre-match conference for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal.

Solskjaer on Paul Pogba:

Earlier in the season, Paul Pogba led the Manchester United side on three occasions under the reign of Jose Mourinho.

However, as their relationship turned frosty, Mourinho announced that Pogba will no more be the captain of the side.

“The only truth is that I made the decision for Paul not to be the second captain any more,” Mourinho stated in September 2018.

However, Solskjaer has now given his opinion on whether Pogba should be the captain of the side.

“Definitely, [I would consider him as captain], because I know the boy from before and he is a leader,” Solskjaer said, when asked if the midfielder could lead the Manchester United side.

“He’s a character, he influences people and you’ve seen the videos from France, and he cares and he really wants to be successful.

“He knows he can’t do it by himself, it’s a team game and he’s a character that brings so many good things with him when he’s enjoying himself.”

The caretaker manager further stated that Pogba is a ‘good leader’.

“You see the personality. He loves playing football, he’s a larger-than-life character, that’s just the way he is.

“When the performances come as well, that marries together as a good leader and you see what it meant to him winning the World Cup. So for me, yes, he’s captain material.”

What next?

Manchester United will face Arsenal in the FA Cup tie later tonight.
