Thibaut Courtois responds to criticism

Thibaut Courtois says that he does not deserve criticisms at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois, who moved to the capital city of Spain from England capital had a horrendous start to his Los Blancos career. Fans started to play the blame game and pointed fingers at the Belgian International when the reigning Champions League winners were conceding goals for fun early on in the season.

Former manager Julen Lopetegui was shuffling between Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois when he was at the helm. But, it is the Costa Rican who is warming the bench under the new manager Santiago Solari and Courtois is vouched to start in the League and the Champions League.

The Real Madrid guard feels that he has not been appreciated enough for his contributions and he is always prone to criticism in social media despite not committing any errors. Besides, Chelsea fans have vented out their frustration on the Belgian after his move to Madrid.

Courtois said “There are times when I feel that I am not appreciated enough. What sometimes all appears on social media … (sigh) but not just me, hey – today it is far too easy to point to keepers when one loses.”

“No, not everything. But if someone writes something flagrant about me, I’ll finally pick it up – through friends, or family.

“I’ve conceded quite a few goals with Real Madrid, but whoever follows me well knows that I’m not playing a bad season. I’m not trying to get myself into it. I do not want to drive home every day and think: “He said this, he said that.”

Even though Real Madrid have not looked convincing, the shot-stopper has managed to keep five clean sheets out of the last ten games which is a decent track record. The former Chelsea goalkeeper says he made it clear about leaving Chelsea before the World Cup, but the Blues wanted to keep him which infuriated the shot-stopper.

He says negotiating with Marina Granovskaia is one of the toughest jobs and he found it hard to take because he was not able to live away from family for a long time.

“That Marina is hard at negotiation is normal. The people in football who are talking about contracts, salaries, transfers, etc. that get players and dispose of them, they have the most difficult job.

“Only, in March Marina and I had a meeting in which I indicated that I wanted to leave. Living in London and the schedule of the Premier League made it impossible for me to regularly see my children, who lived in Madrid.

‘”Are you going to find something?” Marina asked me. ‘Rest assured,’ was my answer. “All right, then we’ll let you go and we’ll find a replacement.”‘

“What turned out? After the World Cup, a departure was suddenly not that obvious anymore. The possible replacements were too expensive. Sorry, that was not the appointment. Then you have to work hard for a moment.” said Real Madrid goalkeeper.

It has not been a great start for Thibaut Courtois, but, at times, the fans have shown tantrums when the team fails to keep the defensive shape which is not down to the Los Blancos goalkeeper. He would be looking to perform on a consistent basis to hit back at criticisms soon or rather than later.
