The second match of the World Cup was quite unlike the first in terms of goals, but a late winner gave the South Americans a 1-0 victory.

Egypt played Uruguay in the second match of Group A, on the second day of the world cup. The Egypt fans, and many people rooting for the underdogs, were left disappointed as Salah was left on the bench. The clash of the current and former Liverpool forwards, in Mohamed Salah and Luis Suarez respectively, was the moment many Liverpool fans were waiting for.

Egypt started the game with a positive note, and kept more possession than anticipated during the first half. The South American side were surprisingly subdued and Egypt played a very dynamic and well organised game throughout the first half.

Uruguay maintained possession in the second half, but Egypt came close on counter attacks. Luis Suarez missed an easy chance in the 64th minute, when he failed to score on a rebound. 20 minutes later, Cavani’s shot was saved by Egyptian goalkeeper Elshenawy, who had an impressive game.

Gimenez scored the goal in the 89th minute as Sanchez delivered a perfect free-kick to send the ball into the net from seven yards.

The game missed the presence of Mohamed Salah, who remained sat on the bench throughout the 90 minutes.

Here are some of the tweets from the match.
