Starc's good-length delivery flies over Paine

Starc’s good-length delivery flies over Paine: The Australian fast bowler’s delivery received inconsistent bounce from the Melbourne pitch.

During the first day of the third Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Melbourne, Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s delivery was seen receiving inconsistent bounce from the wicket as one of his good-length delivery flew over wicket-keeper and captain Tim Paine’s head.

The Australian bowlers attacked the Indian opening batsmen with short-pitch bowling initially but none of that was due to inconsistent bounce off the wicket. Starc’s ball during the fag end of the day was the first such instance.

It all happened on the third ball of the 87th over when India captain Virat Kohli left a good-length delivery which went for four byes. The reactions on the face of both Starc and Kohli spoke highly about the unexpectedness of such a delivery. Watch the full video below:

With this happening right after Paine dropped Kohli, it further hurt the hosts who had the golden opportunity to dismiss the Indian captain in the second last over of the day. Watch the full video of Paine dropping Kohli below:

After winning the toss and electing to bat, India ended up scoring 215-2 in 89 overs at Stumps – Day 1. Debutant opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was the pick of the batsmen for India, scoring a maiden half-century, 76 (161) with the help of eight fours and a six.

With Cheteshwar Pujara (68) and Kohli (47) unbeaten at Stumps, India would be wanting to post a formidable total on the board in the first innings.
