Wham Bam! Adebayo Strikes Tyler Herro in Las Vegas: What We Know About the Heated Incident

Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro were involved in a physical altercation in Las Vegas on Friday, in which Adebayo struck Herro.

The incident took place at a gym inside the Resorts World Casino in Las Vegas. Herro said something to Adebayo, who then walked onto the court and punched the now Milwaukee Bucks guard.

Herro was there in his capacity as the owner of Team Herro, an AAU basketball program. The AAU coach confronted Adebayo, and Herro yelled at his former teammate before being escorted out by security personnel.

Herro Leaked Messages Spark Confrontation

The two players played together in Miami for seven years before Herro’s trade to the Bucks this summer as part of the deal that took Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Heat.

Following the trade, Herro was critical of Adebayo in private messages to a Heat fan on Instagram. The fan leaked the messages online, in which Herro questions Adebayo’s value to the team.

Other rumors circulated online about what Herro said to Adebayo before he turned violent. Neither player has commented on the incident. The Heat and Bucks said they were aware of the confrontation, but also did not comment.

Police were not called to the venue, and there do not appear to be any immediate ramifications for Adebayo.

The incident came following the Heat beating the Bucks 119-86 in the Summer League in Vegas on Friday. Herro attended the game and sat with new teammates Ryan Rollins and Ousmane Dieng, as well as two of the other players, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel’el Ware, who were also traded from Miami to Milwaukee.

Interviewed courtside, he said, “It’s all love. It’s all love in Miami. I’ve seen a couple of the guys, and the coaching staff. Chris Quinn, Spo, front office guys. We are all good in Miami and just the opportunity for both sides to reset, get a fresh start and we’re both super happy for this.”

NBA Summer League in Las Vegas is one of the few weeks each year when players, agents, coaches, and team executives from across the league are concentrated in the same hotels and facilities, making off-court run-ins between players from different teams or recent situations more likely than at almost any other point in the calendar.

Summer League has already generated significant NBA news this week, and this incident immediately overtook everything else happening in Vegas.

A physical altercation between two professional athletes – especially former teammates – is serious on its face. The question of whether it rises to the level of league discipline remains to be seen.

Some off-court physical incidents involving sports figures carry real consequences, but it looks like both players may brush this one off.

The immediate thing to watch is whether the NBA opens a formal review of the incident. No league discipline has been announced, and no formal complaint has been reported.
