Arsene Wenger: Former Arsenal Manager linked with a fallen European Giant. Wenger quit the Gunner’s in 2018 but could soon return to managing once again.

Arsene Wenger bid farewell to the Arsenal back in 2018. However, he is now in the running to be at the helm of yet another club in Europe according to reports.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Frenchman, who is soon approaching his 70^th birthday, is in the running to be AC Milan’s next manager. The Italian Club are under new boss Marco Giampaolo, who recently took over the club this summer on a 3-year contract. However, a poor start to the season has already put his place in doubt.

AC Milan were once a powerhouse in Europe. These days however, they are likened to a fallen giant with the current team and position hardly a reflection of their illustrious past. Other names being discussed are Allegri, Spalletti, Ranieri and Garcia. However, Wenger remains a shade over other names.

Bringing in Arsene Wenger would be a coup for the struggling side. However, his wealth of experience could just be what the team needs to challenge Juventus and even overtake them like they used to in the 50’s and the 90’s.

International aspirations

When Wenger took over Arsenal back in 1996, the North London side was compared to a sleeping giant that was finally awaken by the Frenchman. Milan would hope for the same magic with them. However, it is unlikely that he will accept; considering his very vocal desire of managing an international team at the 2022 World Cup.

“I could see myself working for a team,” Wenger told BeIN Sports. I will have enough time, distance with my last job, and I would not be against that.

 ‘It will be interesting because you have some countries that have shown quality. Especially Qatar who has just won the Asian Cup.

 ‘It will be interesting to see how they develop, but overall I must say I always wanted to go to the World Cup because I felt it is the job of a manager to be where the best football players in the world play football.

‘Hopefully, you will see me, touch wood in Qatar in three years’ time. You will see me in a dugout again, when, I don’t know exactly.’
