WATCH: Lakshan Sandakan commits blunder to miss Steve Smith’s run-out at Gabba
Lakshan Sandakan commits blunder: The Sri Lankan spinner missed a simple run-out opportunity to dismiss Australian batsman.
During the second T20I of the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tour of Australia in Brisbane, Sri Lanka spinner Lakshan Sandakan missed a simple run-out chance to dismiss Australia batsman Steve Smith.
It all happened on the second delivery of the 13th over when Australia opening batsman David Warner hit a Sandakan delivery straight back to him. With Smith backing up too far, all Sandakan had to do was make contact with the ball before it hit the stumps.
After hitting the stumps, the ball rolled back towards the bowler who still had a chance to affect the dismissal. While Sandakan tried to tore out the stumps from the ground, Smith survived despite being out of the crease as Sandakan uprooted the stumps with one hand and the ball being in his other hand.

It is worth mentioning that it is vital for the ball has to touch the stumps in run-outs of such nature. Had Sandakan affected the dismissal, it wouldn’t have had much impact on the match as Australia had almost sealed a 118-run chase.
After Sri Lanka captain Lasith Malinga won the toss and chose to bat, the visitors were bundled out for 117 in 19 overs. Barring Kane Richardson, each one of Adam Zampa, Billy Stanlake, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins dismissed two batsmen each.
After Australia captain Aaron Finch (0) was dismissed on the first ball by his counterpart, Warner (60 not out) and Smith (53 not out) stitched a match-winning 117-run partnership to win the match in 13 overs.

This is the first time Smith & Warner have batted together in an official international in Australia since the 2017 Boxing Day Test. They both made hundreds in that match #AUSvSL

Steve Smith says he plays cricket on 2-3 hours sleep. That’s just like 90% of park cricketers. Wonder if he also has 20 beers and a 3AM kebab? #AUSvSL
