Man Utd Transfer News: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opens up on missing out on Erling Haaland to Borussia Dortmund despite being linked to a move to Old Trafford.

Former RB Salzburg striker Erling Haaland was long rumoured to be joining Manchester United in the January transfer window. However, the teenage forward chose to head to Germany with Borussia Dortmund instead.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was criticised for failing to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer. However, he claims that he is not worried. The development of Mason Greenwood, he says, has given him a boost in his attacking options.

“Romelu’s a good striker and he’ll always score goals but it was time for him to move on,” Solskjaer said per Team Talk.

In reference to missing out on Haaland, Solskjaer said:

“We didn’t find the right one outside our club but we now have Mason [Greenwood].

“Mason’s on eight now. Marcus [Rashford] I don’t know – 14 or 15? Anthony [Martial] has quite a few.”

Addressing United’s strike options further, Solskjaer continued:

“We always believed Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford were going to score goals but Mason has filled a big void.

“I’m not worried about goals from centre-forwards.”

Manchester United are currently linked with a move for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, Solskjaer has said that United will be careful with their signings and not just bring in players for the sake of it.

“I’m optimistic we can keep players fit and if the right ones become available. We do have the resources,” he said.

“There’s no point suddenly bringing someone else in now for the sake of three or four months if that can disrupt any good feeling or chemistry in the group, because the chemistry in the group is really good.

“It has to be the right type and it has to be a good investment for the long term as well.”
