Rohit Sharma whacks consecutive sixes off Tim Southee: The Indian vice-captain didn’t lose his calm in the super over at Seddon Park.
During the third T20I of the ongoing India’s tour of New Zealand in Hamilton, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma stood tall on his reputation as he hit two consecutive sixes to win the super over for India.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and opening batsman Martin Guptill scored 17 runs off a Jasprit Bumrah over to give India a daunting target in the super over.
Having scored three runs on the first two deliveries, Sharma didn’t provide the best of starts to his team especially in the super over. With Lokesh Rahul hitting a four and a single off New Zealand seamer Tim Southee, the equation came down to the visitors needing 10 runs in the last two balls.

Seeming unperturbed about the first two deliveries, Sharma kept his calm to score two consecutive sixes to gain an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Having hit both the shots with utmost confidence, Sharma proved as to why he is among the best in the business in white-ball formats.
Earlier, Williamson scored a masterly 95 (48) with the help of eight fours and six sixes in the second innings to keep his team in the match. It was a phenomenal over from Mohammed Shami which saw the match entering a super over.
After Williamson won the toss and invited India in to bat, the visitors scored 179/5 in 20 overs on the back of Sharma’s 20th T20 half-century, 65 (40), with the help of six fours and three sixes.

Typical Rohit Sharma innings in the super over. Started slowly, singles & doubles initially, then got his eye in and launched sixes at the end! #NZvIND
