IPL 2020 to get postponed due to coronavirus outbreak; April 15 to be new starting date, say reports
IPL 2020 to get postponed: The cash-rich tournament is likely to get delayed by two weeks in the wake of coronavirus threat.
The future of the imminent season of the Indian Premier League has allured plentiful immediate attention on the back of a “pandemic” in coronavirus spreading across the globe.
With major sporting and other events getting postponed or canceled around the world, cricket’s biggest league is under the scanner now.
As is generally the case regarding the sport in India, IPL 2020 is receiving mixed responses from the fans. While a section of fans want the tournament to be played even if it is played behind closed doors, another set of fans are stating players’ health as the reason behind postponing the tournament.
While all ongoing cricket matches are being played in empty stadiums, the likes of Everest Premier League and the Road Safety World Series have been postponed by respective governing bodies.
IPL 2020 to get postponed
Originally slated to commence on March 29, there are reports of IPL 2020 likely to get postponed by at least two weeks. If renowned journalist Vikrant Gupta’s latest tweet is to be believed, the showpiece event will begin on April 15.
Gupta also added that the tournament will continue to begin sans on-field spectators and that the franchises have also agreed to the same.
The IPL will be pushed back by a couple of weeks, start around April 15. Will be held without the crowds, same number of matches with more double headers being added. The franchises have approved this formula. #IPL #CoronavirusPandemic @IPL

Yet to be officially confirmed, the same seems to be a safe option as far as the tournament is concerned. If things improve in the next month (hoping that they do), even spectators can be allowed entry into the stadiums.
Legendary spinner Shane Warne also took to his social media platform Twitter account to post a similar query. Warne, who is the brand ambassador of franchise Rajasthan Royals, tagged several eminent personalities in his tweet.
Another question followers as I just received a very interesting message !!!! Is it true the @BCCI are postponing the @IPL @imVkohli @MichaelVaughan @KP24 @virendersehwag @rajasthanroyals @StarSportsIndia @ajinkyarahane88 @Edged_and_taken @imkuldeep18 @BCCIdomestic @RickyPonting
