Sourav Ganguly Press Conference: Watch BCCI President opens up on Virat Kohli's idea of five Test venues

Sourav Ganguly Press Conference: The newly-elected BCCI President was vocal about the captain of the Indian cricket team.

Interacting with the media for the first time after taking charge as BCCI President in Mumbai, former India captain Sourav Ganguly clearly stated that the board will make the lives of cricketers easier.

“We are here to make the lives of the cricketers easier. And not more difficult. Everything will be decided on the basis of performance. Opinions and discussions will be there.

“Virat Kohli is the most important man in this entire context, so we’ll be there to support him, listen to him. Because I’ve been a captain myself I understand from that position,” Ganguly was quoted as saying.

Sourav Ganguly Press Conference – “I’ll speak to Virat Kohli tomorrow”

After whitewashing South Africa 3-0 in Ranchi yesterday, India captain Virat Kohli shared the idea of India only having five Test venues. Perhaps, Kohli’s comments had come as an aftermath of playing the last two Tests in front of near-empty stadiums in Pune and Ranchi.

Being asked about Kohli, Ganguly said that he will meet the captain tomorrow and that the board will support him in every possible way. The 47-year old also opened up on Kohli’s suggestion with respect to five Test venues.

“I’ll speak to him [Virat Kohli] tomorrow. He’s the captain of India. He’s the most important man in Indian cricket. I look at it that way. We’ll have a word with him and as I said we’ll support him in every possible way.

“It’s been a great team, to be honest. You can say they haven’t won a World Cup but you don’t win World Cups every time. In terms of the Test venues, we have a lot of states, lot of venues. We’ll have to sit with him and see what he wants in that way and take it forward,” Ganguly said.

It is said that Ganguly will also meet the selection committee after they selected the squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh tomorrow.

What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
