Faf du Plessis dwells upon Chennai Super Kings: The former South African captain opened up on playing under another captain in the IPL.
Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings batsman Faf du Plessis admits that the cash-rich league has become a huge part of cricketers’ lives. Had it not been for the novel COVID-19 pandemic, du Plessis would have been representing CSK in the 13th season of the IPL in India.
“There are more serious thing in life than sports I get it, but for us players and fans, IPL has become such an integral part of our season. Every year you know, for the last 10 [eight] years, I have been involved with IPL. It has become a huge part of my life. We love to play. It is the pinnacle of playing with different players.

“The difference with IPL is that you get to play with so many players that you play against all the time and make some new friendships,” du Plessis was quoted as saying in an Instagram live session with Chennai Super Kings.

Since the inception of the IPL, CSK have been led successfully by Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Talking about the legendary captain’s impact on the franchise, du Plessis opined how the team changes in Dhoni’s absence.
“MS [Dhoni] walks off the field. Chennai is a different team. He has got such strong leadership in the group. When MS is not there, the team is not the same. He leaves a massive hole when is he not in the team,” du Plessis said.

Du Plessis, who has led South Africa in 115 out of 255 international outings across formats, further opened up on playing under a new captain in Dhoni and how he conducts himself on the field when playing for Chennai.
“There is one captain in the team so you understand what is your value. I personally, on-field make sure the position of fielders. You help out a little bit to the captain on the day. For guys who want to run the show every time, those people struggle to play under a captain,” du Plessis added.
