Fawad Ahmed drop catch: The spinner from Perth Scorchers was found on the wrong side of a fielding effort at the Adelaide Oval.

During the 21st match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers in Adelaide, Perth Scorchers spinner Fawad Ahmed dropped a sitter of a catch to give a reprieve to opposition captain Alex Carey.

It all happened on the third delivery of the 18th over when Carey played a tired shot against a slower and wide delivery from Perth Scorchers’ Andrew Tye. Having guided the ball towards Ahmed at short third-man, Carey would have thought of walking back to the pavilion before watching Ahmed drop a dolly.

While all Ahmed had to do was grab a straightforward and slow-ish catch, the 38-year old player was seen in disappointing after putting it down.

Carey, who top-scored for the Strikers yet again, scored a brilliant 82 (59) with the help of 12 fours and a six. In what was his eighth BBL half-century, it powered his team to a mediocre 146/9 in 20 overs amidst lack of support from the other batsmen.

Scorchers fast bowler Jhye Richardson, who had opened the bowling after captain Ashton Turner won the toss and chose to field, was the pick of the bowlers for his team with figures of 4-0-19-3. Richardson was well-assisted by Aaron Hardie who picked figures of 4-0-21-2.
