“Can LeBron James jump as high as me?”: Nikola Jokic has got jokes about the Lakers star among other topics after being named Western Conference Player of the Month

The Nuggets had an extended media session today, and the journalists in attendance were treated to some LeBron James jokes by Nikola Jokic.

Big Honey – a nickname that Jokic goes by – is a top 2 candidate for MVP honors in the season thus far. After having a slow start to their season initially, the Nuggets have recovered to now stand at 4th place in the Western Conference standings. They look to have recovered from the loss of Jerami Grant.

The Serbian Olympic silver medalist is averaging nearly a triple-double through 20 games. His team has needed every bit of his contribution, given Jamal Murray’s struggles to start this season off.

Murray was full of praise for his big man. He compared his impact to that of NBA legends like LeBron James, Larry Bird and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Murray said his ability to ‘pick teams apart’ is a huge plus to the Nuggets.

Nikola Jokic jokes about comparisons to LeBron James

Jamal might have made the context of his comparison quite clear, but that didn’t deter Jokic from tickling people’s funny bones. The big man said this with a straight face in the conference, resulting in hysterics all around:

“The speed is there. We are the same athletically. … I don’t know. Can he jump as high as me?” “Guys I’m joking.”

That was hardly the only joke the Joker had up his sleeve today. Asked about how he celebrated winning Western Conference Player of the Month honors, Jokic said:

“I was with my wife at home.” (Five-second pause) “…. I mean, that’s what I did.”
