Bairstow IPL 2021 six: Jonny Bairstow smashes six off Trent Boult; breaks glass of fridge in dugout
Jonny Bairstow smashes six: The wicket-keeper batsman from Sunrisers Hyderabad played an impact-generating knock tonight.
During the ninth match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow played a quickfire knock after being promoted to open the batting alongside captain David Warner.
Chasing a 151-run target at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Bairstow took on the attack against Mumbai Indians fast bowler Trent Boult hitting him for three fours and a six in his second over.
It was on the third delivery of the over that Bairstow hit Boult with a stamp of authority hitting him over his head for a six. With the ball going towards Sunrisers’ dugout, it ended up hitting the refrigerator and breaking its front glass in the process.
In the following over, Bairstow hit a couple of sixes off Mumbai debutant Adam Milne and followed it up with another huge hit against MI all-rounder Krunal Pandya.
Had it not been for a hit wicket dismissal in Pandya’s second over, Bairstow looked set to register his 17th T20 half-century. Having said that, the 31-year old player scored 43 (22) with the help of three fours and four sixes to power his team to a solid start tonight.
After Indians captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, his team scored a below par 150-5 despite a 55-run opening stand between Quinton de Kock (40) and Sharma (32). With bowling figures of 3-0-19-2, Hyderabad all-rounder Vijay Shankar was the pick of their bowlers on the back of his career-best bowling figures.
