“To improve Space Jam 2 box office, digitally replace LeBron James with Michael Jordan”: NBA Twitter roasts the Lakers star and the sequel’s mere $9.56 M box office collection in Week 2
Space Jam: A New Legacy, starring LeBron James collects a mere $9.56M in the second week, finding it difficult to break even
Hollywood is a city where people find themselves or lose themselves completely. It is a city of uncertainty. The uncertainty applies to all, no matter how big or small you are. LeBron James is feeling the same right now.
After an unexpected jump to the top spot last week, the animated movie has fallen down to the fourth spot in its second week. It overtook Marvel’s Black Widow in its first week, and made a whopping $31.7 M, but could not replicate its success in Week 2.
Weekend Box Office:
1) #SpaceJam – $31.7M
2) #BlackWidow – $26.3M
3) #EscapeRoom – $8.8M https://t.co/eB4EW4JTHG— Rotten Tomatoes (@RottenTomatoes) July 19, 2021
A steep 69% decline saw Space Jam making just $9.56M in its second week. This puts the movie at $51.37 M in domestic markets and $42.6M internationally.
NBA Twitter roast LeBron James and Space Jam 2
Space Jam 2 was not very well received by adults worldwide. Everyone who grew up watching the 1996 Space Jam had a problem with the sequel. A lot complain about LeBron James and his acting, while others complain about the subpar storyline.
Currently, the numbers represent the people’s thoughts. Space Jam: A New Legacy has grossed $93.96M total in collection, and its numbers are dropping rapidly. Going at this pace, it is hard to say whether the movie would be able to break even and match its budget of $150M.
NBA Twitter decided to help out, and offer ‘solutions’ to help out the Warner Bros. project. Some suggested digitally replacing LBJ with Michael Jordan would boost revenues by a ton.

Hey buddy, your film had a production budget of $150 million plus an estimated $50 million in marketing. Your film hasn’t topped $100 WORLDWIDE after its second weekend. Space Jam 2 is a MASSIVE box office bomb.

Second weekend box office:
Space Jam: $16M ($27M adjusted for inflation)
Space Jam 2: $9M#mjmondays #boxoffice— LeKaren James (@TREErenceMalick) July 26, 2021
LeBron James is still trying his best to push his project further, with continuous Instagram posts and stories. It remains to be seen whether the sequel can break even, or would it go down as a flop.
