MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli demand BCCI to take a huge step in ‘Salary Cap’ factor
Indian legends of the game, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have demanded Board of Control for Cricket in India to make improvisations in salary cap factor. The former and current Indian skippers suggested the Indian Board to put salary cap for the uncapped players in what will be an important step towards cricket development.
Every player who plays IPL gets a lot of eye balls during that 2 month stint. The previous editions of the league saw some surprise purchases of T Natarajan for INR 3 crore to Kings XI Punjab and Cariappa for 2.4 crore to KKR franchise respectively.
According to Indian Express, a top source in BCCI said that Cariappa who was bought by KKR franchise in 2015 for an impressive fee played a couple of games in the Karnataka Premier League but hasn’t got enough chances to appear for the state Ranji team. This indirectly puts the active first-class players in ‘upheaval’ mode as they earn less in domestic Ranji matches.
“A classic case was Cariappa, who was bought by KKR for Rs 2.4 crore in 2015. He had played a few games in the Karnataka Premier League but hadn’t played for the Karnataka Ranji side. It really sends a wrong message to all First-Class players,” the source added.
On the contrary, the players who keep playing Ranji games relentlessly earn only 10 lakh to 12 lakh throughout the entire season. They get the feeling that the non regular players are earning way too much than the regulars.
In order to avoid too many confusions and fuss on the salary cap factor, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli came forward in an attempt to give suggestions to BCCI so that the board takes the necessary step in keeping a salary cap on these uncapped players.
“On one side we have some who play non-stop Ranji Trophy games and earn only 10-12 lakh in an entire season, and here comes a boy who is getting so much. Kohli and Dhoni felt it wasn’t right and BCCI should keep a salary cap on these uncapped players,” the source added.
