Rohit Sharma had a year to remember in Indian cricket, having scored a century in all three formats and also having captained India in the series against Sri Lanka.

He spoke to the media about how amazing it felt to have walked out the first time with the team sheet in hand and how honoured he was to have led India, even if it was for a short period of time.

Rohit’s debut ODI and T20 series as captain was brilliant for India too, as Rohit and co. managed to brush aside Sri Lanka in both formats, despite that slight stutter in Dharamshala.

With the home season coming to an end, and the Indian team preparing to head out to South Africa, Rohit took to social media to thank the fans for their tireless support during the entire length of the home season.

“What a great home season Team India has had! So many great performances, guys stepped up at different stages & that’s what makes this team great. I would like to thank the teams 12th man, our wonderful fans for constantly getting behind the team” Rohit tweeted.

Having had a splendid year in blue for India, Rohit would be hoping to replicate those performances in white as well, with the South African tour putting forth a huge opportunity for ‘Hitman’ to cement his place in the Indian line up.

It would be interesting to see what combination to go for, especially with Hardik Pandya having not played the Test series against Sri Lanka, and Rohit having excelled as the number 6.

Getting Pandya in would provide Kohli with that extra seam bowling option, but Rohit’s presence would strengthen the batting a lot, something that would be extremely necessary in foreign conditions.

The first test is set to begin on the 5th of January in Cape Town.
