WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo wins the Ballon d’Or for a record 5th time
Cristiano Ronaldo has had the perfect year with respect to individual and team honours, winning the Euro and the Champions League, and getting duly awarded for it individually as well, by getting the FIFA Player of the year award and the Ballon d’Or.
Leo Messi and Neymar were placed 2 and 3rd respectively, and though both of them had a stellar season with Barcelona, Ronaldo’s game at big moments in the season was unparalleled. The way he rose to the occasion in the knockout stages of the Champions League, the authorities just had to hand it to Cristiano Ronaldo.
With this win, Ronaldo is now tied with Leo Messi, with both having 5 awards to their name.
Neymar’s move to PSG and the World Cup being next year could mean an end to duopoly of Messi and Ronaldo, but at the moment it feels like the duo could make it to the podium next year as well.
