It was supposed to be a big day for Ronaldo and co, as Real Madrid needed to win at all costs against their arch rivals Barcelona.
But it was not to be for the reigning Ballon d’Or awardee, as it was his nemesis, Lionel Messi, who reigned supreme at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real started the match at a fast pace, as they attacked the Catalans. But the Madrid strikers could not convert their chances, as Barcelona held on in the first half.
Things changed after the break, as the current table toppers started strutting their stuff on the slick Bernabeu turf.

Sergio Busquets played one of his best games this year, as he stooped the likes of Modric and Kroos from running the show, as Leo Messi slowly started to grow into the match.
Eventually it was a superb counter attack that led to the opening goal, as Luis Suarez swept in a Sergi Roberto pass to give Barcelona the lead.
Barcelona were then awarded a penalty, after Dani Carvajal handled the ball in the penalty box. Messi scored a perfect penalty from the resulting spot kick, and then celebrated in front of the traveling Barcelona fans.
Messi then turned provider in stoppage time, as Vidal scored a close range goal to complete Real Madrid’s humiliation.
At one point in the match, Messi took a free kick that hit Ronaldo, who was standing in the wall, flush in the face.
After the shot, Messi was then seen apologizing to Ronaldo, who then in turn gave him a hug.
