Yuvraj Singh compares Dhoni and Kohli in terms of their captaincy styles
Yuvraj Singh has been a terrific player for India over the years, as the southpaw played a crucial role in some of India’s greatest triumphs over the last two decades.
He was India’s star performer in the 2007 T20 World Cup as well as the 2011 World Cup triumphs, as Yuvraj Singh permanently etched his name in the hearts of Indian cricket fans all over the world.
Yuvi was there in the middle, when MS Dhoni hit that famous world cup winning six in Mumbai. The pair’s emotional hug was captured by photographers and will forever remain in the annals of Indian cricket.
The southpaw’s last captain was his good friend Virat Kohli, as the Yuvraj rekindled some of his best form between 2016 and 2017. He played his part in a famous T20 win in Sydney in early 2016, as Yuvraj and Raina scripted a memorable win.
Yuvi then scored his career best of 150 against England almost exactly a year later, as the left hander showed glimpses of his supreme best.
In a recent interview, Yuvraj was asked about the differences in captaincy styles between Dhoni and Kohli.
“Obviously, he’s very different from MSD, who is calm and composed. Virat is a bit aggressive. The results have shown that he is doing very well as captain. It’s a different generation too. MSD had very experienced players, match-winners. It was a very set team when he got the captaincy. The team has transformed under Virat.
“Being so fit himself, he emphasises on fitness. The players now are much fitter than the previous generation because the game too has become more demanding. Virat is taking the team in the right direction with his fitness and diet discipline, keeping in mind the 2019 World Cup.”
