BREAKING: Andre Russell ruled out of PSL, could miss IPL 2018
Andre Russell has suffered a hamstring injury ruling him out of the remainder of PSL 2018 and casting huge doubts regarding his participation in the upcoming IPL 2018.
Russell, who was playing for the Islamabad United in the PSL, pulled his hamstring during the match against Karachi Kings on Saturday while fielding at long on.
Russell did not bat or bowl in the entire match and was taken for and MRI scan.
“Russell was injured during the game against Karachi Kings and MRI results were not encouraging. He will not take any further part in the tournament,” an Islamabad United official said.
PSL was Russell’s first tournament after an year away from cricket, as he had been banned by the ICC for having violated a doping rule.
The ban had run its course in January 2018.
Russell’s injury comes as a huge setback for the Kolkata Knight Riders who had retained the all-rounder in the IPL retention special.
KKR have stood by Russell during his tough times, having not released him after his doping ban last year and then having gone out and retained him despite him not having played cricket for over a year. The KKR management would be hoping that Russell can recover in time for IPL 2018, which is slated to begin on the 7th of April.
KKR could be without two of their international superstars for the initial part of the IPL, with Chris Lynn also injured, nursing a shoulder injury that he suffered during the BBL.
Hopefully both their stars can shrug off their injury issues and don the purple jersey in the upcoming IPL.
