Kimi Raikkonen furious about Q3 error at Baku
Kimi Raikkonen was furious with his effort in qualifying at Baku, as despite being fastest in the first two sectors during his last burst in Q3, Raikkonen had to settle for P6.
Kimi was looking set for pole position but committed a small error while exiting Turn 16 and ended up losing out on a front row start.
Raikkonen was visibly flustered after the race and admitted that it was in fact a driver error that caused the loss in pace and not those gusts of wind.
“No, obviously it was a f***-up. A mistake. It cost us quite a few places so not the greatest end.” Raikkonen said.
Raikkonen did take the wind issues into consideration but was unsure as to what exactly caused the issue.
“No issues, I took it easier even on the entry because obviously it’s been a bit trickier with the wind all day,” he said.
“I don’t know, it just got sideways, I got it back but I knew already it was all gone because it’s flat out and a long straight [to complete the lap].” he added.
Raikkonen has had a largely frustrating season despite ending on the podium twice and is largely disappointed with what transpired on the race track today.
“Right now I’m disappointed with what happened today,” he said, as reported by Motorsport.com.
“I’ve been a few times disappointed. This is a different story and today, what can you do? I can only look in the mirror. It’s painful.
“You always try to attack,” he said about his plan for the first stint. “Today it didn’t pay off, tomorrow is a new day. I haven’t really thought about tomorrow yet. We’ll see what we can do.” he concluded.
