Ronaldo agrees two-year prison sentence over tax evasion

According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo has struck an agreement over tax evasion, and accepted a two-year prison sentence.

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly decided to accept a two-year prison sentence over a tax fraud case. Real Madrid and Portuguese superstar was accused by Spanish prosecutors last year of tax fraud, amounting to €14.8m.

Ronaldo initially denied tax evasion when he appeared in the court, but the case did not settle.

Spanish outlet El Mundo has claimed that Ronaldo has accepted a prison sentence and accepted his guilt.

However, Ronaldo will not serve time in jail under the settlement because the Spanish law states that a sentence of under two years for a first offence can be served on probation.

Ronaldo has no previous convictions, and hence it is not likely that he will be serving jail time for the offence.

He will also pay €14.8m for the admission of guilt.

The latest fine covers fees from authorities, fines and commission. The case can now be officially closed, reports El Mundo.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Real Madrid is also in doubt as the star forward earlier hinted at leaving the club. He suggested that he could’ve played his last game for the club after the Champions League final.

Ronaldo is currently with Portugal as the team aims for world cup glory in Russia this summer. He is also the captain of the side.

Portugal will start their world cup campaign today, as they face Spain in their first match of Group B.

The world cup began yesterday with a fiery start as Russia thumped Saudi Arabia 5-0.
