Despite Making $154 Million, Jimmy Butler’s Teammate Tricked Him Into Substantial Business Losses: “Goran Dragic Knew How to Get me”
Jimmy Butler made a name for himself at the NBA bubble not only as a player but also as a barista. The Heat superstar provided a paid service to teams at his DisneyWorld hotel with Big Face Coffee. He says he made some revenue and his biggest customer Goran Dragic got off scot-free.
The NBA Bubble took place less than 3 years back, but it already seems like an eternity ago. However, the ‘bubble frauds’, the Lakers and Miami Heat, are reminding us that their runs weren’t flukes with their current play.
Everything seems to be under control for the Miami Heat, despite them not having a highly heralded play. Banking on Jimmy Butler‘s heroics has proved to be an extremely sound strategy, as is usually the case.
However, the Heat will definitely be missing the influence of Goran Dragic, who played a key role in that NBA Finals run. Dragic might be glad, however, not to run into Jimmy, on account of his coffee debts!
Jimmy Butler once revealed how his teammate scammed him for free coffee
It seemed like a meme at the point, but Butler legitimately had serious plans for Big Face Coffee even in 2020. The brand has taken a big step by serving thousands of cups at the recently concluded Miami Grand Prix. And its beginnings were humbler, even though its clientele was select.
Butler got on the Internet as part of a social media campaign by GQ Magazine to answer some questions in late 2020. When asked about his income from his Big Face Coffee initiative, Jimmy was coy with his answer.
“I think I made about…I’m not gonna tell you the exact number. Somewhere in between $1 and $6000.”
He was more ready to, however, sling the dirt on his former teammate Goran Dragic. All in good humor, of course!
“I have to say that my number 1 customer was Goran Dragic, the Dragon. It doesn’t really count, he’s the only person that never really paid for a single cup of Big Face Coffee. And the only reason why was (that) he knew how to get me.”
“He would come into the room and he’d be like ‘Hey, how you feeling today? How’s your body? Did you watch soccer last night? Oh yeah, Neymar is so good.’ And then he’d throw in like ‘Yo, lemme get a cappucino’.”
“He knew how to get me to get talking, and he buttered me up a little bit. Goran, he’s in debt to me.”
Goran Dragic made more money than Michael Jordan in the NBA
Dragic was perhaps the best player on the Miami Heat for a few years before they traded for Jimmy Butler. The Slovenian had a legitimate scoring arsenal and was also a great operator in the pick-and-roll offense.
Goran signed a 5-year, $90 million deal with the Heat as a free agent in 2015. He played in Miami for 6 seasons, making the 2020 NBA Finals their highest scorer till that point.
All in all, Dragic has tallied over $154 million in NBA salaries (pre-tax) – a figure that is $60 million more than Jordan’s NBA earnings.
