Dale Earnhardt Jr. Opens Up on “Bit of a Secret” Involving Kyle Larson
In the age of social media, it’s pretty tough to keep something a secret. But Dale Earnhardt Jr. managed to hold on to one thing until it was made official. It was the news of Kyle Larson running in a CARS Tour race which was officially announced a few days ago. The Hendrick Motorsports driver will be running in the race on June 28th at Caraway Speedway.
And if Earnhardt Jr. is to be believed, it will do CARS Tour, which he co-owns with Kevin Harvick, Justin Marks, and Jeff Burton, a world of good, having someone like Larson headlining a race.
Junior opened up on that, and the way it all unfolded in a recent episode of his podcast show.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. on what having Larson in the CARS Tour means
During the Ask Jr. segment of his podcast show, Earnhardt Jr. revealed how Kyle Larson came to be involved in the CARS Tour, and what he would bring to the series as a brand and as a talent.
“Kyle Larson is going to be racing in a JR Motorsports Late Model Stock Car. I asked Kyle if he would be interested in competing in the CARS Tour, gave him a few dates, this is the one he chose,” Earnhardt Jr. described. “We kept it a bit of a secret. He’s out racing doing all these things, he’s on vacation, and the Cup Series had an off-week, so trying to get him to the shop, get him fitted in the car, get him comfortable. We had to make sure that all of that was going to work and check all those boxes before we said, ‘Yes, this is happening.'”
“I’ve been excited about this for several weeks and the CARS Tour is a fabulous tour full of incredibly talented drivers. But to be able to plug in one of the best drivers in the country, if not the world today, it’s going to be a fascinating thing.”
“If I’m one of the CARS Tour drivers, if I know those guys, they are going to be thrilled about this opportunity to compete with Kyle, and to be able to say Hey to him, see him at the driver’s meeting, having Kyle in the proximity of all of the thing thats we do at the CARS Tour, is going to be great,” he added.
Kyle Larson looking to have an impact in his CARS Tour debut
Speaking in an interview on FloRacing, Kyle Larson opened up on his forthcoming CARS Tour debut and what his expectations are with it. He revealed how Junior approached him during the All-Star weekend at North Wilkesboro, which he ended up sweeping, as he emphasized on how much he likes racing on the local level.
“I feel like I can have an impact on crowds at the facility and viewership on FloRacing,” he claimed.
