de Jong to Real Madrid: Madrid to beat Barcelona to Dutch wonderkid
de Jong to Real Madrid seems to be on the cards as Real Madrid are in line to beat Barcelona to Dutch wonderkid.
European champions, Real Madrid, have entered the race to sign Dutch wonderkid, Frenkie de Jong, who has attracted interest from big clubs including Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.
Reports from Don Balon reveal that the Los Blancos have turned their attention towards the 21-year-old, as Julen Lopetegui has also identified the youngster as a player that could boost the midfield options at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Ajax star has now represented his nation at all levels following his Netherlands senior debut last week, when he came off the bench to contribute with an assist in a 2-1 victory over Peru.

Without any doubt, Ajax are adamant to keep a hold on the 21-year-old and have blatantly denied to negotiate any approach for the Dutch superstar. However, it will be intriguing to see how much longer the club can last this resistance.
Defending La Liga champions, Barcelona had shown interest to sign the Ajax star over the past year but could not agree on a fee for him this past summer window.
Moreover, it is reported that Tottenham’s bid of £45 million was also rejected by the Eridevisie giants this past summer.
And now, Real Madrid have entered the race for the signature of the central midfielder. However, with de Jong contracted at Ajax until 2022, it will be a big test for the European giants to lure the Dutch giants into selling their prized asset.
Barcelona has had good relations with Ajax in the past and will be the favourite to sign him, but with Real Madrid club president Florentino Perez adamant to bolster his midfield options in the winter window, a tug-of-war is expected between the La Liga giants.
Nevertheless, the Dutch wonderkid will come at a prize in excess of £50 million, and it will be interesting to see which club reaches a deal for the 21-year-old.
