Man City news: Fans disapprove digital flags at Etihad stadium
Man City news: Fans disapprove digital flags at Etihad stadium after electronic banners were displayed last night.
Manchester City fans regard flags and banner really valuable, but when the club administration opted to digitize flags in stadium last night, it did not go well with the fans as they criticized the club heavily on social media.
The Citizens are known for featuring banners and flags dedicating to players of past and present. However, the club chose to change things in 2014, as they installed a LED screen that goes around the whole second-tier of the ground.
In justification, the club administration said that the screens will “enhance the matchday experience for fans inside the stadium”. Although, the presence of screen meant the exclusion of traditional flags from tier two.
However, efforts were made to create digital replicas of those traditional flags but fans did not approve the concept.
One of independent sections of Manchester City fans named as The 1894 Group organizes regular exhibitions of displays and flags for special occasions to get it going at the Etihad stadium, and it seems even they are not ready to accept the idea of digital flags.
Manchester City fans are usually seen with their flags during their away games throughout Europe, but unfortunately it is an opposite situation at home as the club is ignoring an invaluable tradition.
How twitter reacted
such a shame we weren’t allowed to carry on the tradition of flags from the balcony, added so much colour and atmosphere to a home match! seeing your flag on a digital image just isn’t the same @ManCity – bring back the proper flags!!!
