DC vs SRH run-out controversy: Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper batsman was seen convincing his captain regarding Deepak Hooda’s dismissal.
During the Eliminator of the ongoing 12th season of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad at Visakhapatnam, Delhi Capitals wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant convinced his captain Shreyas Iyer with respect to Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Deepak Hooda’s dismissal.
DC vs SRH run-out controversy
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the last over when Hooda missed a Keemo Paul delivery outside the off-stump. In a bid to sneak a single, Rashid Khan and Hooda ran for the run.
It was at this point in time that a proactive Pant had already removed his gloves and threw the ball. With the ball hitting the stumps at the non-striker’s end, a well-short Hooda had to make his way back to the pavilion.
What created confusion in the middle was that Hooda had collided with Paul while completing the run. Paul, who moved to his right to collect the ball, came in Hooda’s way and thus making it impossible for him to reach the crease.
What became a question of spirit of the game, umpire S Ravi immediately turned toward Iyer asking him if he wanted to revoke the appeal. While Iyer thought about doing the same, Pant came in running to convince him that he shouldn’t do the same.

With Paul not colliding with Hooda deliberately, Pant perhaps felt that there was nothing wrong in what happened. Eventually, Hooda (4) was declared out.
After Iyer won the toss and put Hyderabad in to bat, they ended up scoring 162/8 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Opening batsman Martin Guptill top-scored for his team scoring 36 (19) with the help of one four and four sixes. With bowling figures of 4-0-32-3, Paul was the pick of the bowlers for DC.
