Aaron Wan-Bissaka: Stats prove why Man Utd new signing is the best defensive full-back in the League

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is an excellent young full-back edging out others in the defensive department.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka will become Manchester United’s second addition of the summer when his medical is deemed successful. As per various reliable sources, the Red Devils and Crystal Palace have agreed a 50 million deal.

This deal sees him become the second costliest full-back in the history of the game, after Benjamin Mendy. The amount might be justified given Wan-Bissaka’s displays over the last season.

He broke through the academy ranks of Crystal Palace and was handed out the debut cap by Roy Hodgson in 2018. He established himself as one of the best full-backs in the league and has stats to back up with him.

In the defensive department, Wan-Bissaka edges out some of the best full-backs in the league.

Twitter account “Brett” compared the defensive stats of Wan-Bissaka with some of the other colleagues in the league.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has a big ask because of the tactical discrepancies between Crystal Palace and Manchester United. The Eagles are known for defensive tactics, whilst the Red Devils love their full-backs to get forward and get involved with the attack. The English International also played for England U-21 in the Euros, but he was not able to help his side to get past the group stages.

The 21-year-old made 46 appearances for the Eagles since breaking into the first team. Despite the defensive functionality, Wan-Bissaka managed to assist five times during his stint at Selhurst Park. There is room for improvement in the attacking side of the game as he does not possess the threat which some of the top full-backs have.

Nevertheless, he will prove to an upgrade over Ashley Young, who has been criticized for his lamentable performances over the last few seasons. Signed from Porto, Diogo Dalot has failed to shine for the Red Devils, giving a free route for Wan-Bissaka to take over the right-back position from day one.

Wan-Bissaka becomes the second signing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Previously, Daniel James put pen to paper in a long-term contract. At least a couple of additions are expected, with the Norwegian coy on a central midfielder and right winger. He hopes to steer the English outfit to a Champions League spot next season.
